About CMTA

CMTA is a member of the Georgia Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association.

About the Cherokee Music Teachers Association:

  • A non-profit organization formed in 1984 to promote fraternity among music teachers and stimulate professional growth, while providing students with numerous educational, performance and competitive opportunities.
  • Members include independent studio teachers, private and public school teachers, and college faculty.
  • Affiliated with the Georgia Music Teachers Association and Music Teachers National Association.
  • Monthly meetings inform teachers and provide educational opportunities.

Student Opportunities:

Activities of the association are targeted at the promotion of the art of music and advancement of musical knowledge.

  • A Christmas Pianothon at Town Center Mall, playing solo and ensemble music for shoppers.
  • Spring Auditions and Solo Festival provide both competitive and non-competitive performance opportunities, with selected students going on to compete at the state, regional and national levels.
  • Two Summer Music Camp Scholarships are awarded yearly to deserving high school students.
  • Masterclasses conducted by guest artists provide a stimulating learning environment.

To Join CMTA:

  • Active membership is open to all persons engaged in any field of musical activity. Members also hold membership in the Georgia Music Teachers Association and Music Teachers National Association. We welcome teachers of all musical instruments.
  • Student membership is open to any bona fide student of music, subject to membership regulation.
  • Patron membership is open to any individual or business interested in the promotion of the art of music through financial support of CMTA.
